Reduce cart abandonment rate (see your site analytics reports for statistics on abandonment)

Do you have Funnels set up on your site? If not set them up.

If so, do you have a high bailout rate at ‘view cart’?

If the answer is Yes, look at the following:

• Make checkout button clearer
• Remove extra junk from the cart view – de-clutter the page
• Make sure the cart loading time is less than 5 seconds

If the answer is No,  Do you have a high bailout at the ‘Checkout’ page?

If the answer is Yes, look at the following:

• Is your cart showing an SSL security error? If so, fix it
• Do you require login ? Remove the barrier
• Do you offer choice of login or guest? Make guest more visible than log-in, test other options of layout and design.

If the answer is No,  do you have a high bailout rate at the ‘billing info’ page?

If the answer is Yes, look at the following:

• Check your design and validation process
• Automatically use billing as shipping address option
• Make it easier? Prompt zip codes, postcodes, city/county

If the answer is No, you have a high bailout rate at the confirmation page?

If the answer is Yes, look at the following:

• Check page load speed
• Make sure it’s clear that confirmation is needed
• Check for surprise charges

If No, look at the following:

• Hire a usability expert – is the process getting too complicated?
• Check time of day for the worst conversions
• Install tools to provide more information
• Check your marketing – are you confusing customers?
